For more than 50 years, the International Schools of Business Management (ISBM), a global consortium of top business schools, has been transforming the way that business school professors teach and how business skills are learned. Now, thanks to the power and reach of remote learning technology and in an effort to further its impact, ISBM offers business school faculty everywhere the opportunity to transform their own classrooms – whether intimate seminars for a few dozen students, workshops for executives, or lectures to hundreds – in a way that makes the most of their owns gifts as teachers.
In a series of four half-day, highly interactive, and intensely engaging virtual sessions over four consecutive Fridays, participants will learn key “active learning” approaches that will unlock real learning for their students.
The International Schools of Business Management (ISBM) was created more than 50 years ago to improve the teaching and learning that goes on in business schools everywhere. Through its flagship programme, the “International Teachers Programme” (ITP), it has transformed the lives and careers of thousands of business school faculty and those who learn from them.
The ITP, a multi-week, in-person programme delivered annually at ISBM member schools, trains participating faculty in “active learning” pedagogies and transforms their mindsets from focussing on teaching to creating environments in which learning comes alive. The essence of the ITP experience has now been extracted and distilled into ISBM’s newest and most scalable and accessible programme, “The Essentials of Teaching and Learning,” delivered in a remote learning format.
I was so fortunate to participate in the 2014 ITP. Although I was an experienced educator, I was looking for a programme that would further sharpen my teaching skills and connect me with like-minded business and management academics who recognise the importance of quality teaching. In the ITP I found it – and had my expectations exceeded in every way! Among the skills I learnt in that two weeks, which I still use today, are better ways to deliver classes, improve student engagement, and to become much more reflective on my teaching goals and practice. It’s still the stand-out training experience in my 20+ year career as an educator. Whether you’re a new or highly experienced academic, this programme will challenge, encourage, and enrich you... and ultimately your students.
ITP encouraged me to dare to teach differently and enabled me to become much more creative and impactful in the class! Thanks to the guidance of world-class lecturers, I have started to see teaching as an activity of developing impactful learning journeys for students, which goes beyond conventional education. Learning from peers from different countries, with different backgrounds and experiences was also an amazing opportunity.
